Education department employees boycott work in protest

OFFICE BEARERS and members of the Uttar Pradesh Intermediate Teachers’ Association (Sharma group) manhandled joint director of Education, Amarnath Verma, at his office on Thursday.
Sources said the teachers were staging a dharna at the JD office for the last four days.
The situation took an ugly turn on Thursday when Verma arrived at dharna spot to accept the teachers’ memorandum, office bearers of the teachers association manhandled him and used abusive language against Verma.
This caused serious resentment among Education department employees who also adopted a confrontationlist posture on Friday.
Sharply reacting to the incident, the Education department employees locked Teachers Bhawan at Education office building and boycotted routine work. All work in the department came to a grinding halt as the employees organised a meeting to express their anger over the incident. They decided to intensify their agitation to mount pressure on the teachers’ community. Presiding over the meeting, divisional president of UP Educational Ministerial Officer Association Wahid Ali strongly condemned the attack of the official and said the Education department employees would not compromise on their pride.
Association leader Shiv Charan Yadav, Ravindra Shukla, Jagat Bihari Mishra, Shiv Murat Rai, Rajendra Kumar, BB Mehta and others said that sense of insecurity was prevailing among the employees and unwanted interference of teachers community leaders had largely affected normal functioning of the office.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, district unit president of UP Intermediate Teachers’ Association (Sharma group) Markandey Singh alleged that Education officials were involved in corruption and the a mafia was flourishing in the district in connivance with Education officials. He said teachers were adamant on putting an end to arbitrary fee being taken by various inter colleges in the name of computer, science, building funds and others. Singh accused Education officials of harassing those teachers who had retired on June 30 by not furnishing formalities of their provident fund and pension.
Meanwhile, talking to Hindustan Times, Amarnath Verma said he would raise the issue with the divisional commissioner and seek appropriate action.
He hinted that an FIR could be lodge against teachers’ community leaders and repeatedly said that they would not succumb under pressure mounted by the teachers’ community for the promotion of their kith and kin.
Meanwhile, UP Intermediate Teachers Association regional joint secretary Jagdish Pandey strongly condemned the teachers misbehaving with the joint director and said it was a black chapter in the history of the teachers’ movement.
