THE GANGA INTERNATIONAL School team allegedly misbehaved with umpires during a match with the Jawahar Lal Nehru School in the CBSE National Hockey Tournament at Maj Dhyanchand Ground on Friday.
The incident took place when umpire Azim Ansari showed a yellow card to jersey No. 11 Lalit for hitting the ball in wrong way. Instead of accepting umpire’s decision, Lalit began protesting and shouting at him. When Lalit did not accept the decision, the umpire showed him the red card.
In the meantime, other players of the team joined Lalit. And, in a few minutes, there was chaos. Some Ganga International School team members allegedly abused the umpire. Later, the team went out of the ground,
saying it would not play. “It was not the attitude expected from the team of a reputed school. We condemn it and will send a report to the higher authorities,” said Dr SN Rai, secretary, organising committee.
Even Dronacharya award winner GS Bhangu criticised the players of Ganga International School. According to sources, Bhangu was in the favour of a stern action against the Ganga International team. However, the team later apologised for its behaviour. The team of Jawahar Lal Nehru School was declared the winner.
