Teams formed to check power theft

UTTAR PRADESH Power Corporation has constituted 15 teams in its drive to check power theft in the district. The department has also announced to felicitate those who give information about power pilferage.According to sources, executive engineers, assistant engineers and a magistrate along with police personnel will be part of the team. They will check electronic meters and punish the consumers if their meters were found tampered with.

According to sources, executive engineers, assistant engineers and a magistrate along with police personnel will be part of the team. They will check electronic meters and punish the consumers if their meters were found tampered with.

They will also lodge cases under Electricity Supply Act against the defaulters.

Deputy general manager of the Power Corporation PN Srivastav appealed to the people to cooperate with the electricity department to check power theft and to help increase revenue.

Meanwhile, several complaints were received from different parts of the city that in the ongoing surprise raids to check electronic meters, power department employees were lodging cases against those who had no electricity connection in their name. Resident of Rasoolpur, Illahibagh, Tiprapur, and Mohanlalpur accused power officials for harassing them.

Activists of Janta Dal (U) demanded suspension of night rostering as the Board and final examination were round the corner. They criticised Mulayam Singh Yadav government for misleading people on the power scenario. Bunker leader Mohd Zaheen said scheduled and unscheduled power rostering had harmed the weavers community as several powerlooms unit had been closed. Bunker leader Qamruzzama Ansari, Ashfaq Ansari, Habibur Rehman Warsi and Mohd Zaheen said the community would launch a decisive battle against unscheduled power cuts.
