Now treatment for brain stroke, the most common life-threatening neurological disease, will become easier, quicker and more precise.
Max Institute of Neurosciences has introduced a technology, which helps in seeing live images of the brain while performing the surgery.
A fully integrated neurosurgical operating theatre, including ‘DynaCT’, which enables the surgeon to view real-time images, will also help in treating aneurysm (swelling in brain vessels leading to bleeding) and spine ailments.
“With this system we can conduct our tests in one room as opposed to having to move patients back and forth between a traditional diagnostic CT scanner and an interventional suite,” said Dr Vipul Gupta, Head of the Interventional Neuroradiology at Max Institute. Enumerating the benefits of the technology, he said, “This minimally invasive approach ensures least injury to the brain, with lesser complications, better outcome and shorter hospital stay. DynaCT will increase the efficiency of such procedures manifold.”
The entire process helps Endovascular Neurosurgeons and Interventional Neuroradiologists in making immediate and precise decisions during interventions. “DynaCT will prove to be the biggest benefit for patients of stroke (brain attack), aneurysm and spine ailments, who are primarily considered for Interventional procedures,” said Dr AN Jha, Director, Neurosurgery, Max Institute of Neurosciences.
Patients will have to shell out an extra Rs 2,000 for DynaCT imaging. The institute has already treated a couple of patients using the new technology and, doctors say, it has proved immensely beneficial.
