The trauma of 17-year-old schoolgirl being gangraped in Noida on Friday evening was compounded on Sunday by the police's utter lack of sensitivity.
Shocking the victim and her family, the Noida police disclosed the minor's name, her father's name and their residential address in a press release issued by them on Sunday afternoon.
A medical examination of the girl confirmed rape, which she said was committed by five men, all in their 20s, in a car after being blackmailed into consuming alcohol but the police said she had a few drinks willingly at a birthday party for one of the men, whom she knew. Asked how the crime took place despite more than 6,000 police personnel being in town for elections due here on Tuesday, Noida superintendent of police Anant Dev said, "We cannot keep an eye on each and every car in the city."
The police said the girl, a class 10 student at an open school in Noida, was invited by her friend Rahul Arya to celebrate his birthday. She went to Priyadarshani Park in Sector 12 and met Rahul, Sunil Rawat and Himanshu Sharma.
Dev said, "The girl has known Rahul and Himanshu for a long time. They took her to a house to meet other friends of theirs in Sector 51. The victim agreed to consume vodka with them. They pushed her inside a car and took her behind Krishna Hotel nearby and raped her inside the car.”
