Punit Malhotra, a computer-engineering student at a polytechnic in South Delhi and son of a businessman, got the victim's name and residential phone number from his girlfriend, said the police. "The two were probably looking for some cheap fun," said an officer.

Punit posted two messages and the phone number in the victim's name on the site, inviting all "fun loving boys", claiming "I'm free, I'm available, take me out for a date".

Her parents complained to police chief KK Paul when the lewd calls poured in. DCP (special cell) Ashok Chand felt that Punit knew full well the dangers of posting the girl's number on the web. He has been booked for circulating matter which is scurrilous, indecent or intended to blackmail.
