Asserting that Congress would continue efforts to achieve political consensus on the Telangana issue, the Andhra Pradesh Congress president K Kesava Rao on Monday accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi of creating 'hurdles' in the path of statehood by forcing a by-election in Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Suspecting a 'hidden agenda' behind TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao's resignation from Lok Sabha and parting of ways with UPA, Rao claimed that TRS will be defated in the coming by-poll.

"The question before the voters of Karimnagar is who has the capacity to deliver the Telangana state? It is only the Congress that can do it. It is the power and persuasive leadership of Sonia Gandhi that can influence the democratic thinking of other parties and deliver Telangana," Rao told reporters in Hyderabad.

Though the Congress was committed to the Telangana cause, the creation of a new state involved fulfilling certain constitutional obligations which must precede democratic consultations and consensus, the APCC Chief said.

Welcoming UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's statement in Nainital on Sunday, making it clear that Congress was still working on consensus on the Telangana issue, he said "This should convince every one that Congress is more sincere and committed than anybody on the issue."
