A city court, on Monday concluded the recording of depositions of a key prosecution witness in a multi-crore fake-stamp paper scam case in New Delhi.
The court was acting on the plea of kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi that he did not want to continue with the cross-examination because of illness.
A weak-looking Telgi, after being discharged from a Pune hospital, appeared before the Metropolitan Magistrate Sameer Vajpayee through video-conferencing.
He said, "I am not feeling well and I have no objection if the witness BP Singh is discharged."
Earlier, the court had allowed Telgi to examine Singh, General Manager of a Gurgaon-based company British Gas India.
The company had allegedly bought fake stamp papers worth Rs 11 lakh from kingpin's Prime services.
The examination of Singh was inconclusive on the last date of hearing.
Singh, in his depositions had said nearly 120 sheets of share transfer stamps, which is now in the possession of CBI, of denominations Rs 100, Rs 50 and Rs 25 were supplied by accused.
According to CBI, Anand G Thorat, a native of Belgaum in Karnataka, was the manager of Telgi's Prime services.
Thorat was arrested on December 3, 2000 and Rs 70 lakh was allegedly transacted by them which they had amassed by selling fake stamps in Capital.
