Tendulkar shares the record of 34 Test tons with fellow Indian and former captain Sunil Gavaskar.

Tendulkar, who is nursing a tennis elbow, may also notch up another record if he is fit enough to play during the series that promises to be the 'mother of all'.

He is just 121 runs short of reaching the 10,000-run mark and will become the fifth cricketer in Test history to join the elite list led by former Australian skipper Allan Border with a career total of 11,174.

But Tendulkar will not be alone, though he leads the milestone-chase in the batting department for India.

Captain Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman will also be vying for their respective records and a mention among the game's legends. For, an abundance of emotionally-charged fans on both sides will ensure that a good performance or new records make the player near-immortal in the cricket crazy nations.

Australian legend Don Bradman heads the list with 12 double tons, while England's Walter Hammond and West Indian Brian Lara are joint second on 7.
