Tension prevailed in Hassan town today after some unidentified persons pelted stones at commercial establishments during a procession taken out by members of a minority community, triggering burning of some shops and vehicles.

Hassan Superintendent of Police Sharat Chandra said members of the minority community had staged a protest against an article published in a leading local daily.
Three shops and two vehicles were set ablaze.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been clamped in the area and seven persons arrested in connection with the incidents.
