The CRPF had claimed to have recovered grenades and ammunition 600 yards from the Government Higher Secondary School, Bhaderwah, hours before Sonia Gandhi's visit.

Now the Jammu and Kashmir police have instituted an inquiry and alleged that the CRPF claim was false.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda range, Farooq Khan, issued a statement on Saturday that a fact-finding committee headed by SSP, Doda, Manohar Singh, will probe the incident.

The CRPF had claimed to have unearthed a militant hideout, which was not true, said the police. They had not communicated anything to the local police about the recovery, which is obligatory on part of any of the wing of the security forces in such cases.

"The claims of para military forces came to light through media reports. They reported the matter to the local police only a day later. That made things seem highly suspicious," DIG Khan said.
