'Terror threat remains in London'

London police said that the city remains an "iconic site" for another terror attack following the July train bombings.

The city of London remains an "iconic site" for another terror attack following the train bombings in July in which 52 people died, the deputy head of Scotland Yard said Thursday.

Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman told the Guardian newspaper that while "no plot had been discovered", police were tracking a number of people it feared could be planning terrorist attacks.

"I don't want to scaremonger but it has to be said, when you look around the world and at the prominence of London, that the threat is real," he said.

He also conceded that it was difficult for the police to gain the trust of the Muslim community.

"There has been progress but starting from a regrettably low baseline," Hayman said. "We have close links with the Muslim community but the next step is getting them to share information."
