After every condemnation of terrorists’ inhuman act, innocent people keep getting killed. If, as Ghulam Nabi Azad stated, ‘militants are enemies of Islam’, why aren’t such enemies thrown out of the Muslim fold? Unless there is social boycott of such enemies, the massacre of innocents will not stop.

Despite heavy security, terrorists managed an attack that killed 32 Hindus in Doda and Udhampur. There is urgent need to increase local intelligence work and tighten patrolling. Our security agencies can meet any challenge if given a free hand.

Misuse of public funds
Apropos of the report Bihar MLAs, ministers to strike it rich (May 1), I object to the life-long pension and Railway coupon facilities for 13 Bihar assembly members. Voters have not elected them. It’s a wastage of public money that is being used to support a liability.

Irresponsible Shyan
Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi has rightly accused Shyan Munshi of turning away from his social responsibilities (Witness the spineless, May 1). Shyan has spoken decent Hindi in movies and now claims he doesn’t know Hindi. Because of his and a few other elite people’s cowardice, a person who should have been convicted years ago is still leading a normal life.

Fasts work
Apropos of Khushwant Singh’s write-up Fasting as blackmail (April 29), nobody is contesting the utility of dams for agriculture, but one cannot let development of one section take place at the cost of another.
Also proper rehabilitation in the past does not ensure it in future projects too. NBA activists resorted to hunger strike only after years of employing other modes of protests bore no fruit.
