Terrorist attack foiled in J&K; 1 Hizb terrorist held

Jammu and Kashmir police foiled a terrorist attack on a police station and the residential quarters of a police official in Udhampur district and arrested a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, official sources said on Tuesday.

A group of Hizb terrorists opened heavy firing on the police station and DSP quarters in Gool tehsil of Udhampur district on Monday night, they said.

However, alert policemen retaliated and heavy exchange of fire took place, they said adding that terrorists escaped from the spot after one-half-an-hour long gun battle.

However, the policemen chased the terrorists and arrested one Hizb terrorist, identified as Tariq Ahmed Alais Sadiq, the sources said adding Sadiq was active in militancy since 2000.

One AK rifle along with its 117 rounds, four magazines, one Chinese grenade, one radio set and Rs 300 in Indian currency were recovered from him, the sources added.
