Apropos of the report We will help India build N-reactors, says Putin (January 24), it is of great satisfaction that in the true spirit of a time-tested friend, the Russian President has offered atomic energy facilities to India, including the supply of nuclear fuel and the transfer of reprocessing technology. Russia has also offered India the latest MiG-35, a strike fighter aircraft to match the F-16 in Pakistan’s arsenal. All efforts should be made by India to reciprocate Putin’s gesture.

Divisive tactics

Balram Misra in Notional crisis (January 24) has rightly stated that M.S. Golwalkar never tried to define nationalism on the basis of Hinduism as was claimed by Sitaram Yechury. Yechury had criticised the RSS ideology and said the concept was utilised by the BJP to gain political advantage. Whatever the BJP tried to get from establishing a Hindu Rashtra, the UPA government is trying to do by assuaging the minorities under the guise of secularism. If Yechury could see the division created by the NDA, how can he overlook the problems the UPA is creating.

This way, we will send a message to the world that the new India has the moral authority to protest the sort of insults visited on Shilpa.

Why express shock and surprise about the British? Are we Indians less racist? A look at our ‘Sunday Matrimonial’ columns will show our racial bias. I am yet to read an ad for a dark, attractive, beautiful girl. In fact, everybody looks for a fair, good-looking and beautiful girl. Doesn’t that smack of racism?
