Nearly 92 per cent of the men picked up from last month’s Juhu rave tested positive for drugs, medical reports that reached the police on Wednesday showed. The reports of tests on the women at the party are still awaited.
Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) officers had raided the Bombay 72 Degrees pub in Juhu on October 5 and detained 231 people, besides arresting 15 alleged drug peddlers. The ANC had sent the blood and urine samples of all those detained for laboratory tests.
Of the 119 men in the group, 109 tested positive for Ecstasy and charas. Officers are now waiting for the reports of 112 women. The drugs confiscated from the spot were also tested, and turned out to be 95 per cent pure.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, Vishwas Nangre Patil said the police would send summons to the 109 men, telling them to present themselves in court. “The youngsters will probably get bail in court, but we’ll do our job and prepare a chargesheet against them,” Patil said.
Of the 231 detained, 87 were students, and 80 professionals from different fields like fashion, films, music, the merchant navy and call centres. “We have charged the detained under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act,” Patil added.

{{/usCountry}}The summoned 109 will be treated by the police as “victims” of drug abuse in court, such terminology helping the offenders fight depression borne from thoughts of jail. They can also be exempted from prosecution thanks to a rehabilitation-encouraging section of the NDPS Act, under which the offenders promise to go through full de-addiction at any government-recognised institution.
“The court will monitor the rehabilitation and exempt the accused from prosecution, but only once,” Patil said.
