THE NECESSITY for a ‘Textile Park’ in Kanpur has been emphasised to save the industrial climate and to improve the fast declining employment opportunities in the city.

The state general secretary of the National Textile Corporation (NTC) Staff Association Rajendra Trivedi has sent a request, on behalf of its members, to the Union and State government for selecting one of the venues for the proposed “Textile Park” in Kanpur.

According to Trivedi recent announcement made by Union Textile Minister Shankar Singh Baghela about constructing 25 ‘Textile Park’ all over country to boost textile production and to meet increasing demands of Indian textile products in the world market.

Besides, the members also demanded for revival of at least one NTC mill in Kanpur after closure of all major NTC mills of the city.Trivedi said the declining graph of employment in the city could be improved if both the demands are fulfilled. Besides, he said, constructing Textile Park in Kanpur and revival of mill would be easier as the city already has the basic infrastructure for the same.

The leader said that being the biggest wholesale market in Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur also have all necessary marketing facilities.Besides, he claimed that about 260 acre of prime land of NTC all over Uttar Pradesh has been earmarked for sale. As per present circle rate the land was worth Rs 700 crore. Therefore, relevant financial need for both the projects could also be fulfilled with the sale of land.
