Located in Woolloongabba, a suburb of Brisbane, the Brisbane Cricket Ground is affectionately known by cricket fans around the world as "The Gabba".
In 1895 a lease of an area of swampland, previously set aside as a recreation reserve, was granted to the Queensland Cricket Association for the establishment of a cricket ground.
The first job was to drain the swamp and fill the uneven surface. A year later the first match was played between teams representing Parliament and the Press.
International Test cricket commenced here on 27 November 1931, when Australia played South Africa. Sir Donald Bradman (226) holds the record of highest individual score in Tests at this ground.
The spectator areas of the ground have been progressively renovated since 1993 and now boast a seating capacity of 37,500 spectators.
The biggest events to be held at the ground in recent times include the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
