The Harry Potter movies may have ended, but the magic still continues to live among Potter fans. Recently, around one million users joined Pottermore.com, the new website developed by the author J K Rowling. Once inside, fans have the opportunity to retrace Harry’s steps and participate in the wizarding world by opening an account at Gringotts, the goblin bank or shopping for school supplies in Diagon Alley. As you move through the website, one can learn spells, brew potions and collect items in their virtual ‘trunk’ to use and enjoy later. Around 5,000 words in the site are devoted to explanation of which woods are suitable for which wands, with an online sorter helping readers to find the right one for them.

Suchismita Chakroborthy, an engineering student and a Harry Potter fan, was lucky enough to be one of the few lucky ones to register. “Seven clues were placed on the site for seven days based on the seven books. And each day, there was a clue which you had to solve to register. The clues were placed there for around 30 to 40 minutes per day. I was able to register on Day 4. For the time being, only the first book has been incorporated into the site,” she informs excitedly. But not everyone was as lucky. “I tried 3 or 4 times but was unable to get through,” says Nitin Ghuliani, a student at Vivekanand Institute of Professional Studies. “But I am looking forward to when the site will be open to all. I assume that it would be like an interactive virtual book. Also I read that there is a writer’s block where you can tell J K Rowling about your own ideas as to how the story should progress,” he adds.
