This is what Muslim leaders, agitated at the non-implementation of the Srikrishna Commission Report, asked Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh when they met him on Tuesday.
The Commission had inquired into the communal riots that followed the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, and indicted several politicians and police officers.
The Muslim leaders questioned the state government’s will to implement the report’s recommendations. They especially wanted to know why the government failed to challenge in the high court the acquittal of former Mumbai police chief R.D. Tyagi, the main accused in Suleiman Bakery deaths case.
“When the 1993 serial blasts guilty are sentenced, it is the government’s duty to prosecute police officers who killed innocent Muslims,” said Gulajar Azmi, Secretary, Jamat-e-Ulema Hind.
Incidentally, the Supreme Court will conduct the last hearing next week of a petition filed over the state’s dithering on the Commission’s recommendations.

A relatively weak public prosecutor could not stand up to the battery of defence lawyers,” said Maulana Syed Athar Ali, president of All India Ulema Association. The sessions court ultimately discharged Tyagi and eight others.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s senior secretary, Abdusattar Yusuf Sheikh, said: “The entire episode has left Muslims feeling that justice is out of bounds… This is the time to act fast. Some blasts convicts have got capital punishment whereas those who killed innocent Muslims are free.”
