I don’t know what you’re going on about. Are you by any chance referring to his opposition to the Women’s Reservation Bill?

Yes, I think that he has a point here. He feels that if the wives and daughters of officers and businessmen come into politics, they may be, er, whistled at. He’s worried about women MPs being eve-teased.

I see, I would not mind a whistle or two especially now that I am a bit long in the tooth. But how does he explain the fact that his daughter-in-law was one of those very people who tried to get into politics? Did anyone whistle at her?
The Congress has come up with a neat riposte. It says that if you cannot respect women, don’t insult them. If the Mulayam school of thought goes through, then there will be very few women we see in politics today.

Do say: Whistle-blower!

Don’t say: Mulayam and Mayawati, who eve-teases whom?
