And while we completely endorse the desperate urge among the metrosexual lot itching to get their hands on everything pink — from pink ties like those on the Big B and the baby pink dress shirts that chota B is wearing, to the pink ganjees and tops that our leading men are modelling in tinsel-town and the pink kurtas that the folks at Rahul Nanda's bash were wearing last weekend. Freedom to dress aside, don't you think it's a tad OTT if you're wearing pink and you happen to be one of those mega action stars of all time, doesn't it?

Well, that was pretty much what Van Damme seemed to be doing at the recently concluded IIFA awards, where the brawny Hollywood star was seen first in a light pink dinner jacket-matching vest combo and then following it up with an equally outrageous lilac suit over a white 'T'!

What's wrong with Van Damme, you ask? “Maybe someone told him that Bollywood was colourful and he wanted to fit in. Then there was that role thing about him wanting to star in a Hindi movie also. Or maybe he was just trying to do a Govinda,” designer Narendra Kumar muses.

Kumar labels Van Damme's choice of colours as “very weird”, saying the star is either going the “hip hop” way or is in the “Hamptons style of summer dressing where the colours are a tad too fresh for comfort…” and is in fact confused to say the least. Others say the action star is simply going soft with age.

Or maybe Van Damme is just endorsing the fashion statement that a man in pink is confident and sensitive at once. Then again maybe he's angling for Indian women, playing on the fact that the species generally digs pink. Unfortunately, the pink that the fashionforecasters were talking about were linen-suits in white with a tinge of pink, meant for a Meditteranean beach not a hotel lobby or an award function.

So what does the pink suit say about you? “People want the pink suit to say, ‘I'm letting my hair dow. That I really don't care what you think about me or my clothes'. What it can come across as is a desperate cry for attention,” Kumar says.
