MOVING ON cycles across the country, three brave heart theatre artistes are in the city to disseminate message of patriotism and create awareness on several social issues through street plays. These artistes have covered a distance of 87,360 kilometres after traversing 19 states, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab among others. They have plans to cover 16 more.

Group leader Ranjeet Bachchan and two other artistes, Kalindi Nirmal Sharma and Vijendra Mishra started the expedition from Gorakhpur on February 4, 2002 and will conclude their expedition in 2012.
To propagate the message of world peace and brotherhood, they have fixed a target to visit 10 countries having a similar historical background like India’s including Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Tibet, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
Lady member of the group, Kalindi Sharma said they were publicising a message of patriotism and creating public awareness on several issues like literacy, polio, social evils through street plays. She said they had conducted 10,635 street plays till June 26, 2006 as part of the expedition.
“We are focusing on famous story written by Munshi Premchand, ‘Kya yehi mera watan hai’, to depict the present political and economic conditions of India after getting independence. Through a story in the vernacular, ‘Hud-Chukava’, we are presenting the importance of literacy,” Sharma said. She said her team had got good experience across the country.
“Around 60 per cent women and girls did not hesitate to take a decision while remaining girls, specially in rural areas, hesitated to take a decision on their own,” she said. She claimed her team was the first expedition team to reach the Khardula pass, situated at a height of 18, 380 feet in Leh Ladakh area of Jammu and Kashmir.
