WHEN EVERYONE was talking about their success stories at the Vikram awards function organised at Ravindra Bhavan here on Monday, there were two recipients who distinguished themselves from the crowd.
Ramvaran Pal, the physically handicapped swimmer who was named the 2006 Vikram award winner, and Nisha Khan, the youngest Eklavya award recipient for Taek-wondo. The duo attracted everyone’s attention at the function.
Vikram award is the highest sports award at the State-level for senior players while Eklavya award is the highest sports award for juniors presented every year to outstanding sports personalities of the State.
Setting an example for others, Pal of Gwalior has proved that success could be achieved if there is will and honest efforts. “My objective is to put up a challenge for opponents no matter who they are,” Ramvaran, who was silver medallist at the 5th National Swimming Championship organised in Mumbai in 2004, said.
The 11-year-old Taek-wondo star Nisha Khan, who was honoured with Eklavya award, was the youngest recipient today. Despite her young years, she has big dreams.
“I want to get a gold for the country at the international-level,” the class VI student said. The daughter of a tailor, Nisha was confident of winning medals at the international-level. Winner of three gold medals in three different national championships, Nisha said she would not stop till she won a medal for the country.
