The stranger at your doorstep can be a thief on the lookout to flee with your laptop and cell phones.

The city police have arrested a 14-year-old boy who revealed the trick which he used to target those living as tenants in the city.

“The attackers would ring the door bell and also knock the door. In case there was no answer, they would enter the house and run away with valuable items. But if the door is opened, they would pretend to be on the lookout for a house on rent,” said a police officer.

The boy was caught on Monday when he tried to apply the same trick at a house in DLF Phase-2 along with an accomplice who managed to escape after residents raised an alarm.

During interrogation, the minor confessed that he along with others had stolen many laptops in the city in the recent past and the gang is operating from Old Delhi area.

According to police, more than 550 cases of laptop theft have been registered in the city since 2006.

These cases were reported from houses, offices and cars parked in malls and market places in posh localities such as DLF City, Sushant Lok and MG Road.
