Third batch of 2,017 pilgrims leave for Amarnath yatra

The third batch comprising 2,017 pilgrims today left from the base camp here to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security.

The third batch comprising 2,017 pilgrims today left from the base camp here to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security.

The batch, with 1,581 men, 307 women, 25 children and 104 sadhus, left in a cavalcade of 66 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp at 5.05am on Friday, a police official said.

The convoy for the yatra has already crossed Tamatar Morh on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and would reach its destination at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps by this evening, he added.

With Friday's batch, as many as 4,822 pilgrims have so far left from Jammu base camp for Amarnath shrine.
