Third front in the offing, says Karat

The declaration comes a day after the party's Gen Secy Prakash Karat met Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh.

A day after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav met CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, the Marxist party on Sunday said it was trying its best to build a third alternative to Congress and BJP in near future.

Addressing a public rally at the Judges field here, Karat said proposals in this regard had been already sent to "democratic and secular" forces in the UPA but did not name any political party.

However, till the formation a third alternative, the CPI(M) would like to continue supporting the UPA government from outside, he added.
