Conceived some four years ago and touted as the panacea for the perennial traffic jams in Cyber City and on the Golf Course road, the proposed R600-crore Huda-DLF Sector road would have changed the face of the city. But the wait is getting longer as the construction of the project is yet to begin.
With 16 dedicated lanes, the signal-free 8.3-km stretch from Delhi-Gurgaon toll plaza to the Golf Course Road would have reduced the travel time on the stretch from 30 minutes presently to 7 minutes.
After the Haryana government accorded it in-principle approval in 2008, it took more than four years for the authorities to come up with a project report. The bids for the ambitious project were filed only last Thursday.
According to officials, "there were technical and commercial issues that were to be sorted out".
A revised concept study of the project was submitted by global design and planning firm AECOM last year. Earlier, the design and engineering firm WSP was working on it.
Four companies — Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS), L&T, Punj Lloyd and Lanco have chipped in with their bids which officials say are being scrutinised. According to them, the contract is likely to be awarded in a month.

{{/usCountry}}Six-lane main carriageways on both sides along NH-8 from Delhi-Gurgaon toll plaza to DLF Square building are to be made as part of the project.
According to the contract, Huda will make available space for the widening of the carriageways from three lanes presently to six lanes.
How fast will the authorities make a move in this regard will be a matter of curiosity for commuters.
However, Huda superintending engineer RK Kakkar told HT, “The authority has the required land adjoining the existing roads for the construction.”
Higher-ups in both the DLF and Huda are confident that the project would meet the September 2014 deadline.
