Flights to the neighbouring kingdom are full between Saturday and Tuesday, as are hotel rooms.

Why Kathmandu? With budget packages costing as little as Rs 12,000 per head (that includes ticket, airport to hotel transport, accommodation and some meals), tourists are flocking to the Himalayan kingdom, say tour operators. Moreover, the flying time is just one hour and 20 minutes.

Jyoti Mayal of New Airways Travels, an umbrella organisation of travel agents in north India, said packages range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 13,000 per head for three nights. "Most have special discounts on family bookings,” she said.

"All flights to Kathmandu on Friday are already full," a Cox & Kings official told HT on Wednesday. Even Indian Airlines flights are choc-a-bloc between Friday and Tuesday; Wednesday too is tight.
