Thousands throng temples

Maa Kushmanda was worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri. Thousands of devotees thronged the temples since early morning in order to worship the deity who is related to the nature's gift of giving birth. It is believed that all the sorrows of the worshippers vanish with her blessings.

Maa Kushmanda was worshipped on the fourth day of Navratri. Thousands of devotees thronged the temples since early morning in order to worship the deity who is related to the nature's gift of giving birth. It is believed that all the sorrows of the worshippers vanish with her blessings.

All the Devi temples in the city were embellished with flowers and colourful lights. Shatchandi and Durga Saptashati path reverberated in the environment. Hawans were also performed in the morning.

One of the significant siddhapeeths Maa Kalyani Devi is all decked up for the occasion of Navratri. It is one of the prominent temples where main rituals are being held. On the fourth day the entire sanctum was embellished with the flowers of 'rajanigandha' and rose. The shringar of Maa was done with the flowers of 'bela' and rose and gold and silver jewellery added to the magnificence of the idol. Devotees made a beeline to the temple since early morning and the darshan continued till midnight.

Adding to the specialty of the event is musical discourse of Ramcharitmanas which is performed by Balvyas Pandit Srikant Ji Sharma who has been invited from Kolkata. Chandi Mahayagya is also being performed in the temple each day.
According to Pandit Sushil Kumar Pathak, president of Mahashakti Maa Kalyani Devi Ji Ka Mandir, on the fifth day Maa Skandmata will be worshipped. "She cradles Shadanand and has four arms", added Pathak.
