The Punjab unit of Congress on Monday expelled three party leaders for their alleged anti-party activities even as polling to Jalalabad Assembly constituency which will decide the fate of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal is peaceful.
Punjab Congress Chief Mohinder Singh Kay Pee expelled Ferozepur District Congress Vice President Sher Baj Singh, former District President Gurdeep Singh Sandhu and former Chairman of Jalalabad Block Samiti Baldev Raj for their alleged anti-party activities, a party spokesman said in Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, about 65 per cent polling was reported till 1500 hours in Jalalabad Assembly constituency, election office spokesman said.
Congress candidate from the seat, Hans Raj Joshan, alleged that booth capturing is taking place at a large scale in the constituency, a charge denied by the ruling SAD.
Joshan is frequently sending faxes to the State Election Commission office alleging that rigging and booth capturing is taking place at almost all villages falling in the constituency.
Joshan is pitted against Sukhbir whose fate will be sealed by about 1.7 lakh electors. The SAD President has resigned last month after he failed to enter the Assembly in the stipulated six months period after his nomination as Deputy Chief Minister of the State.
Meanwhile, the polling at Banur and Kahnuwan too was peaceful as between 55 to 60 per cent voters exercised their franchise till 1500 hours.
