Three persons drowned after they were swept away by swollen drains flowing over culverts following heavy rainfall in two separate incidents, police said today.

Three persons drowned after they were swept away by swollen drains flowing over culverts following heavy rainfall in two separate incidents, police said on Sunday.

Auto-rickshaw driver Purshottam Goswami (48) along with three children tried to cross over a culvert near Navchandi Mandi, they said adding that in the process his three-wheeler was swept away by the swollen drain last night.

People around saved the three kids from drowning but couldn't rescue Goswami whose body was today recovered from the drain near Rameshwar area - 100 metres away from the place from where he was swept, police said.

In the second incident, two persons in a motorbike were swept away by a swollen drain at village Bagmar last night, police said.

They were crossing the culvert after taking their dinner at a dhaba when they met with the watery grave, they said adding that their bodies have been recovered from the drain at village Badgaon.

The deceased have been identified as Bagmar Village Panchayat Assistant Secretary Ajay Moore and one Dilip, police said.
