Three persons were killed and 42 others were injured in separate road accidents in Sundergarh district since Thursday morning.
Police said a businessman, Dinesh Agarwal, was killed on the spot and four others were critically injured when a speeding truck hit their car on Ring road, near sector 15 on Friday.
The injured were shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH).
At least 27 passengers of an overloaded bus were injured, five of them seriously, when their bus overturned near Kalsihiriha near Kuarmunda, about 40 km from Rourkela on Thursday night.
The injured were treated at Rourkela government hospital (RGH). The seriously injured were shifted to the IGH, the police said.
In a separate accident, a youth, identified as Keagan Singh, was crushed to death while crossing the road near Bisra Chowk by a school bus.
Enraged over the incident, a mob put up a road blockade disrupting traffic for about three hours.
The blockade was lifted after the school authorities agreed to provide a job to the victim's mother and a compensation of Rs50,000, the police said.
In another incident, a school girl was killed at the busy Kuarmunda crossing, about 60 km from here, while returning from school last evening.
Bikash Patel (19) of Sundergarh was seriously injured when his bike was knocked down by a dumper at Badabahal road.
