The three laid down their arms before BSF Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland Inspector General PK Mishra at a function in the Border Force's sector headquarters in Guwahati.

The three, including self-styled 'corporal' Thomas Rongpi and Rupsing and Janaram Teron, deposited an AK-47 assault rifle and two pistols along with ammunition.

Stating they were unhappy in the militant outfit, they told reporters that they were forcibly taken away from their villages by the KLNLF and compelled to undergo training under duress in handling of sophisticated weapons such as AK series rifles and hurling of grenades.

Welcoming the militants back to the mainstream, Mishra said the BSF was motivating the extremists to give up arms for peace and that the effort was meeting with success.

The force during the last 11 months of its anti-ULFA and KLNLF operations in Karbi Anglong had neutralised one ultra, had six others surrender, apprehended 47 linkmen, seized 27 weapons with 250 assorted ammunition and fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs 60 lakh, besides printing material, he added.
