Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi on Saturday said a three-pronged strategy, including initiation of dialogue with them, is required to curb Maoists.
"Socio-economic development, maintenance of law and order and initiation of dialogue can control Maoists ... If Maoists in Nepal can come to the mainstream why not in India?" Jogi, who is here to campaign for the forthcoming assembly polls in Jharkhand, told a press conference.
Efforts should be made to stop exploitation, eradicate poverty and illiteracy and improve health and communication as part of the socio-economic development efforts, he said.
Claiming he had kept the Maoists beyond Chhattisgarh borders when he was the chief minister, Jogi said of late, the rebels have come as near as Raipur.
Expressing concern over Jharkhand's situation since its creation despite its rich mineral and human resources, he said Congress could change it if voted to power.
"Who has sponsored, promoted and protected corruption in Jharkhand? The NDA had ruled the state for a large part of nine years," Jogi said, reacting to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh's allegation yesterday that Congress had encouraged corruption in during the UPA-led governments.
"If you come to Chhattisgarh now you will find many Madhu Kodas there. A Congress committee had found 101 scams in Chhattisgarh with Rs 5000 crore scam in energy sector, Rs 3000 crore scam in paddy and Rs 2000 crore in the health sector heading the list," he claimed.
