Three quarry workers were killed and two suffered serious injuries when the sretch of sloppy rock on which they were standing to drill a hole to fix explosives collapsed at Thondamathurai in Perambalur district, 160km from Madurai.

Police said the accident took place on Friday when the entire stretch of sloppy rock on which they were standing slipped and collapsed.

Ganesan, Dharmaraj and Harikrishnan who were trapped under the debris died on the spot, while Loganathan and Periyasamy suffered injuries and admitted to hospital, police said.
