The unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi was trifurcated into three civic bodies - North, South and East Delhi Municipal Corporations -- on April 21 last year. On Tuesday, another trifurcation took place and now there will be three portals instead of the common MCD portal.
The standing committee of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, which is in charge of the common information and technology (IT) department of all three civic bodies, gave its nod for the trifurcation.
"The e-governance project was common even after the trifurcation last year. There were discussions about whether the IT department will remain common. There have been meetings with the Delhi government, too, in this regard. Commissioner Manish Gupta felt logical partitioning of all the work was required. The policy approval has been given now. The executive approval was done earlier and thus the proposal was submitted to the standing committee," a senior South civic body official said, adding that there will be three separate e-governance portals, even though the IT department will remain the same.
He said the web trifurcation should be completed in 3-4 months. "It has around 16 applications, which include veterinary trade licensing, general trade licensing, health trade licensing, factory licence, hackney carriage licence, parks and community halls bookings, birth and death certificates, property tax, tehbazari, hawking permits and RTI, among others," the official said.
The online property tax system of the MCD got huge support from residents as it enabled them to file the returns and make the payments from the comfort of their homes.
In the very first year, R186 crore was collected through the services of the online property tax system. In 2008, the MCD property tax system was awarded best e-government initiative of the year by eIndia at the International Conference on Digital Learning in the city.
