THREE WOMEN, who became pregnant after the family planning (tubectomy) operation, demanded compensation from the chief medical officer, here on Monday.

The women and their kin were angry over the failure of the tubectomy operation and blamed the doctors for not properly conducting the procedure.
Residents of Holagarh and Kaudihar block, the three women along with local residents, handed over an application to the additional chief medical officer (ACMO family planning) Dr SC Gupta.
They claimed that they became pregnant ever after tubectomy and demanded compensation for it.
Following complaints, Dr Gupta started an inquiry into the matter and directed the medical officer incharge and the CHC superintendents of Holagarh and Kaudihar to submit their explanation along with the details of the family planning camp.
“The tubectomy of the three women was conducted between 2003 to 2005. In three to six per cent cases the procedure fails. But still the explanation has been sought from the officers concerned.
These women will be given a compensation of Rs 5,000 each in case they decided to terminate the pregnancy with two weeks. If they decide to continue with the pregnancy, free health facilities will be provided to both mother and child.
