Tie-up with Philippines in rice research

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research signed an agreement with the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines, to support and facilitate India’s rice research for the next three years.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), our premier farm research organisation, on Tuesday signed an agreement with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines, to support and facilitate India’s rice research for the next three years. “This will help boost our rice production,” ICAR director-general Mangala Rai said.

The agreement (2009-12) will ensure India’s continued access to advanced rice cultivation technology from around the globe. India has contributed 142 “breeding lines” to IRRI for use in breeding programme in 2008, and 28 Indian scientists have been trained in Marker Assisted Technology at the IRRI.
