Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels on Sunday shot dead six Sinhala farmers on the border between Trincomalee and Anuradhapura districts in north Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan Military spokesman, Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe, said that the killings, which took place in the village of Kallanpattu at 4.50 pm, were carried out by the LTTE with the sinister intention of fomenting ethnic violence in Sri Lanka.
