Chief Minister Narendra Modi will perform the ground-breaking ceremony of the Mandir, they said.

The memorial to Mahatma Gandhi is being built by 'kar sevaks' with symbolic samples of soil and water brought from all the 159 towns and 18,000 villages in Gujarat as also from different states in India and 26 countries.

The project has been undertaken as part of the state's golden jubilee year celebrations.

The time capsule in the form of a box called 'Kaal Sanduk' or 'Smriti Manjusha' is made of special stainless steel. The scripts too are written on a special paper mixed with plastic to last for a long time.

It will contain audio-visual compact disks prepared by the Government of Gujarat, besides Ravishankar Maharaj's speech delivered at the time of Gujarat's Foundation Day on May 1, 1960.
