With the legislative arithmetic clearly against him, embattled Karnataka Chief Minister N Dharam Singh seeks a vote of confidence on the floor of the assembly on Friday.
However, last-ditch efforts to rescue the crisis-ridden Congress-JD(S) government continued on Thursday.
JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda and his rebel son and MLAs in his splinter group held meeting on Thursday evening after which the JD(S) chief would consult the district unit heads before making his stand known.
Hours before the meeting, the rebel faction made it clear that there was no change in their stand and they would defeat the confidence motion to be moved by the Chief Minister.
"It is certain. We will defeat the motion," N Thipanna, spokesman for the rebel group said.
In the 224-member assembly, BJP with 79 MLAs, 39 of rebel JD(S) group headed by Gowda's son HD Kumaraswamy and five independents aligned with the saffron party together command strength of 117, above the majority mark.
Congress has 65 MLAs while JD(S) 11 after its strength stands weakened by the eight members of breakaway faction headed by Siddharamaih and the 39 MLAs of the rebel group headed by Kumaraswamy.
