“About three months back, someone had gifted the zoo six whistling teals. They were just a few days old when they came to the zoo and had been very weak. Initially they were kept in an artificially created pond in the hospital. About a week back four of them were shifted to the main pond amongst the bigger water birds,” said Eva Sharma.

“Our keeper Nandan Singh, however, noticed that the older whistling teal couple had started taking care of them and all six of them used to move together. The older birds used to feed them individually and protect them from other bigger birds.

The older birds used to stay close by while the younger ones played under the sun and whenever the younger ones feel there is some kind of a danger around they run to the older birds,” she added.
