Tips to sell yourself

Building new relationships means being able to market yourself in a certain manner. HT Style offers some tips.

Do you feel trapped in a dull, boring job? Do you feel there isn't much hap pening in your life? If so, you can break out of dull or boring by linking up with new people. New people can help you broaden your horizons. Building fresh relationships, however, will mean you 'market' yourself in a particular way. To get what you desire, you might need a different attitude or a different look.

Here are some tips on how to fine-tune your self-image:

Ask yourself: "What do my clothes say about me?' Do you dress to fit the part you're trying to play on this earth? If not, change something.

Write an imaginary article about you: Sit down at the computer and devise a make-believe article describing yourself.

Does the overall description of you mesh with your goals? Identify your weak points and work on them.

Play the movie: Envision staying the same as you are now for years. If you don't change something, how close will you come to your true goals? Be honest.

In marketing yourself to business clients, a potential date, or to your new in-laws, you will have some type of image that plays out on the big screen. If you don't take charge of that image, you will lose control over outcome and someone else may decide to accept you for something you don't want (like a so-so job).

Finally, ask yourself how you must present yourself to impress those you desire to be part of your circle. Do you need to be more businesslike, organised, or well dressed? Do you need to return phone calls faster or follow up in a timelier manner concerning great opportunities?
