Tirupati to launch FM channel

The FM station will be set up for the Sri Venkateswara College, about 200 km north of Chennai.

The Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam, which administers the hill shrine of Venkateswara in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, plans to set up an FM radio station soon.

The FM station will be set up primarily for the Sri Venkateswara Oriental College run by the trust, about 200 km north of Chennai.

The trust has already applied for a license to start the station, Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam executive officer APVN Sarma told reporters in Chennai.

"Though it will be an educational channel, it will have some worship material also," he said.

The trust offers specialised services for devotees like 'darshan' on the net and live audio of the poojas held at the shrine is available on the Internet. Reservations for viewing the deity are also done online.
