“The MLA has confessed to his involvement in the murder of the PWD engineer during interrogation in the police remand,” Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brijlal told mediapersons here.

Brijlal said prima facie investigations had revealed the involvement of the MLA’s wife and district panchayat president Vibha Tiwari in destroying evidence in the case.

He said a notice had been served to her to record her statement in the case. However, “she is still not traceable and we are looking for her,” the ADGP said.

The BSP MLA and his supporters allegedly lynched Gupta on December 24 after he reportedly refused to pay a huge sum to him for the birthday celebrations of Chief Minister Mayawati.
