Announcing this while addressing the newly-constituted 13th State Assembly, Governor SS Barnala said the resolution would be moved during the current session of the House.

"A resolution to convey wholehearted support to the endeavour of the Centre to introduce reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions like IITs and IIMs under the control of the Union Government will be moved during the current session of this House," he said amid thumping of desks.

The Governor also said in pursuance of the 93rd Constitutional amendment, the state government would bring necessary legislation, specifically providing mandatory reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and other denotified communities in unaided non-minority self-financing educational institutions in the state.

He said the government would also take necessary steps to ensure that the concessions available to the Adi Dravidars were extended to Adi Dravidars who follow other religions.
