Virtually rejecting the CPI(M)'s demand for a judicial probe by a sitting High Court judge into the violence at Dr BR Ambedkar Law College early this month, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday said the demand could be considered if the CPI-M led West Bengal Government ordered a probe by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court into police firing at Nandigram, in which 14 people were killed.

Writing in the DMK's mouth piece, 'Murasoli', he said the West Bengal government should also order a probe by a sitting judge of the High court into the rape and murder of a woman volunteer of 'Save Farm Volunteer Movement' at Singur village in 2006.

'Will the Tamil Nadu unit of the CPI-M demand these things. If they do it, we can appreciate that and consider their demand for a probe by a sitting High Court judge', he said.

Tamil Nadu government had already ordered a probe into the Law College Violence by a retired judge of the Madras High Court Justice P Shanmugam.

He also denied CPI-M Tamil Nadu unit secretary N Varadarajan's comments that the recently concluded Assembly session was over in four days.

The CPI-M had kept quite then, he said.

He also rejected another charge of the CPI-M that opposition were not given enough time to discuss important issues. Sri Lankan Tamils issue was discussed for one and half days and the Law college violence was discussed for a whole day, he said.
