The CPI is unlikely to take any drastic step like coming out of the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, even though it got a lesser number of seats for the May 8 Assembly polls in comparison to the CPI(M), party sources said.
In the seat sharing exercise, the DMK allotted 13 seats to the CPI(M) and 10 to the CPI for the elections.
"The party does not want to be seen as second among equals and may not take any such strong decision, keeping the larger interests of the state in mind," the sources said.
They pointed out that even IUML, which had been allotted only one seat in the 2001 polls, has now been given three.
However, DMK has decided to contest only 129 seats, the first time since 1980 when it contested 117 seats.
The sources said a debate was on in this regard at its general council meeting here.
Though the party was unwilling to go to the extent of "rocking the boat", it would certainly convey it's displeasure to the DMK, the sources said.
The CPI had even scheduled a press meet this afternoon, but has now postponed it to Monday.
