Acting tough on protesters who hold rallies on the national highway-10 passing through the city, deputy commissioner (DC) Vikas Gupta on Monday imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) here. The section prohibits assembly of five or more people in an area.
“To prevent damage to public property and avoid any untoward situation, Section 144 has been imposed from Delhi bypass to Hisar bypass (a stretch of around 6 to 7km),” the DC said.
“Political parties, student bodies, and social and religious organisations hold protests from the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) to the NH-10, hampering emergency services of the hospital,” he said.
On April 1, Dalits of Madina village in Rohtak district gave a tough time to the district administration and police after they placed bodies of two youth outside the house of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hood on the NH-10.
The protesters lifted the bodies on the assurance that the three accused would be arrested at the earliest. Seeing no breakthrough in the case, they hit the roads on April 7. The police have arrested three people, including one of the accused, in the double murder case. At present, villagers are sitting on a dharna at the Ambedkar Chowk here and threatened to intensify the agitation if the remaining accused were not arrested.
